Ward level ECD committee formation process accomplished in 137 wards of 14 Local Governments
In collaboration with the Government of Nepal, Center For Education And Human Resources Development and Local Governments (LGs); and support from UNICEF Nepal, we have jointly supported to form 137 (targeted) Local Early Childhood Development (ECD) Committees in 14 local governments, which includes 8 Municipalities: Lalbandi Municipality, Mithila Municipality, Shivaraj Municipality, Rolpa Municipality, Narayan Municipality. Khandachakra Municipality, Sarada Municipality and Bhajani Municipality; and 6 Rural Municipalities: Dhanauji RM, Chakraghatta RM, Kanakasundari RM, Kailari RM, Laljhandi RM and Beldandi RM. 14 LGs covered 4 Provinces: Madhesh Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province; and 10 Districts: Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Kapilvastu, Rolpa, Dailekh, Kalikot, Jumla, Salyan, Kailali and Kanchanpur district.
Through the formation of the ECD committees based on the National Strategy for Early Childhood Development 2077–2088, about 2862 (562 LG level and 2300 ward level) local government authorities/stakeholders have been directly sensitized on the importance of the ECD programs and early investment under the UNICEF Nepal-supported project “Strengthening Early Childhood Education and Development in Nepal through implementation of Early Learning Development Standards”.
Furthermore as envisioned in the “National Strategy for Early Childhood Development 2077–2088”, 14 ECD coordinators have been supporting their respective local governments for effective implementation of the integrated ECD programs.
